What you wanted to be when you grew up:
You’re going to laugh – a Princess!

What you are:
Blogger and NLP coach/interventionist

Brief Summary of your Start Up:
eMomsatHome.com is a blog that was founded in early 2006 to offer real-time insights into starting and running a home-based business. The main topics include blogging as a business, business tips, coaching, and work-life balance.

I am also a life and small business coach, certified in NLP, TimeLine Therapy and Hypnotherapy. These skills allow me to work with both groups and individuals and help them make rapid, true changes in their beliefs, values and identity.

What inspired you?
Being the recipient of a 6 hour intervention by the Anthony Robbins & Associates organization drastically changed my life. With chronic depression, bulimia, homelessness, addictions, self-sabotage and poverty now far behind me, I now live to share the gifts of my lessons and pay them forward.

How long have you been in business?
This time around, 9 months.

How did you fund it?
My husband earns nearly enough to cover our expenses – the rest came out of a retirement account (I know, not the ideal way to do it, and I wouldn’t recommend it!!).

Do you have a Fairy Godmother (or Mentor)?
I’ve worked with several, but right now I have some more informal relationships with several successful people in which we coach each other in different areas of life.

Do you belong to any Business Organization or Networking Groups?
CIMA – Chicago Interactive Marketing Association

Current Business Challenge?
Building the coaching side of my business – interventions are a one-two day immersion into a complete release of old negative emotions and an overhaul of personal values and beliefs – with long lasting effects. It’s a bit of a hard sell, people don’t believe that it could be that easy – at least when I offer a full money back guarantee, my clients realize I stand behind my work. ☺

The challenge is education – since most people don’t realize this kind of “therapy” exists, it is difficult to target people already looking for it. So getting the word out via word of mouth and PR are new areas of marketing/promotion I don’t have a lot of experience with – yet. ;)

What are you doing about it?
New site redesign to drive traffic to target content. I’m also considering doing some video shorts so that people can see an intervention in action. I also talk about my intervention work with my blog readers and traditional coaching clients to get the word out.

Favorite motivational quote:
It’s a short story… (which is fairly religious, and kind of ironic, because I don’t consider myself a religious person – but I am very spiritual):

There was a woman who died, and faced God. She pleaded with God to let her return to earth, saying “God, I need more time to do the things I was put on this earth to do! I have lives to change, a family that needs me, and dreams that I want to achieve! Please, give me more time!”

God responded, “Dear, there is no more time. Give me MORE YOU.”

The story reminds me that who I am ‘being’ is much more important than what I am ‘doing’.

Family?
Awesome hubby of almost 9 years and 3 kids.

If so, how do you balance family and business?
By working at home, putting leverage in place to get my stuff done, saying no and yes to the right things, and asking for help. ☺

Favorite book?
Harry Potter, plus a gazillion books on marketing and self help.

What do you do to relax?
Boating, web surfing, reading, family outings, crafting and knitting.

What do you want to change most about your world?
What a loaded question – this could take hours to answer in and of itself!

Long term, I want to help millions of people learn how to follow their hearts. That, and I want to build bridges between world religions to help end wars over spiritual beliefs. I know, pretty lofty. ☺

Shorter term, I want to change the paradigm of thinking around traditional psychotherapy models. NLP has been proven to help people overcome lifelong phobias in one session – with a long term success rate of over 60%, and NO pharmaceutical drugs. Compare that to 7-10 years in traditional ‘therapy’, and you can see why I am pretty passionate about getting the word out about what NLP is capable of. This is only one small example of what one can do with NLP, but it is a good example of the results generally achieved. Again, pretty lofty, but this one is hard, but doable in the next 5-7 years, I believe.

What are you most proud of?
Overcoming chronic depression is probably the biggest. Secondly, helping my husband get sober and saving our marriage. Of course, I’m pretty dang proud of my kids… and my blog is old enough to really start making an impact – I love that so much.

What advice would you like to offer other Start Up Princesses?
Follow their hearts, especially when it doesn’t make sense. There’s lots more, but it almost always boils down to this.

Favorite Magic Wand (tool/resource)?
Tapping the power of a coach, mentor or mastermind/networking group have had the biggest impact on my career and businesses, by far.

If you could design a tiara, what precious stones would you use?
What’s the point of designing a tiara unless you are going to use diamonds?! ;)

Would you be interested in being a Fairy Godmother to another woman entrepreneur? (I am working on a secure system to do this, any ideas?) Depends, because my business is coaching – so to offer it for free would be a bit of a conflict. But, I would be willing to do it if there was some kind of application process, with the most hungry, eager and least ‘fortunate’ getting a chance for a new life. I’m a sucker for that!

What business subjects would you feel comfortable mentoring in?
Service businesses and blogging.

Would you be interested in going to lunch with other women entrepreneurs for a “networking tea party”?
Sure!

If you are out of Utah County, would you be willing to be a facilitator of such an event?
Absolutely.
