Hand-Foot-and-Mouth Disease. Wouldn’t that be a LOVELY t-shirt? Well, I’m making one for my daughter today. Bummer!!! She’s been crying and absolutely MISERABLE for 2 days and not sleeping longer than 20 minutes and so we’re all crying and miserable. This is what I’ve learned from it so far:

  • It’s hard to figure out what it is because it isn’t very common and I just thought she had a fever and really chapped hands from the cold…
  • It’s extremely contagious for kids, not adults, (unless you’re pregnant it’s bad for the fetus!)
  • You get nasty blisters on your hands, feet, and ulcers/sores on your mouth that make it so you can’t eat and you’re supposed to cover your hands and feet with socks (we are using cotton socks on her hands with neosporin) so you don’t transfer the virus around (but the hands covered are tough to do for us all the time.)
  • It lasts 5-7 days and then you aren’t contagious anymore or until it scabs over
  • Nothing to treat it, no need to visit the Dr., no antibiotics or anything
  • Yogurt and Chocolate pudding (her “cake”) are the only things she’s eaten because of the pain in her mouth
  • Legos are great because you can wash them after they play with them, so are My Little Ponies.
  • Having groceries delivered was great today, they even delivered us some balloons.
  • I hope that no one else gets this! No playdates or birthday parties at our house this week. Waah!
  • Mom needs a break!
