The following post from my close friend and mentor Heather Madder was written in response to a beautiful conversation we had following the Mrs. Utah pageant. Heather is a new Fairy Godmother for Startup Princess and is a well-loved inspirational speaker and writer with a deep spiritual core. I hesitate to grant Heather’s request to publish this personal post because she is incredibly generous, yet her message is universal for all, so I hope you’ll find it helpful in your journey and understand more about mine. This is a CELEBRATION post to honor Kelly’s success at the Mrs. Utah pageant! I was deeply grateful that she called me after the event to discuss her experience and through the course of our conversation, we came to many conclusions about the process of preparing for the pageant and the outcome. First of all, I would like to congratulate Emily Nelson, Mrs. Utah 2008. She is a beautiful woman and I send sincere best wishes for her reign this year. Kelly was the first runner up, which is a phenomenal r
esult by any standard.
In her recent post, Kelly shared that she felt disappointment, which is a response that truly resonates. I happen to believe in Divine Order, which is that seemingly random events unfold with a higher purpose in mind. So…what is the purpose behind declaring what you want to the universe, believing in that thing, working 100% to obtain it, getting very, very close, but not actually getting it? Because this is a community of highly active, goal-oriented women, it’s a fair question—for each of us.
As Kelly spoke to me after the event, I sat in a quiet place in my house, cleared my mind of thinking, listened with my “spirit self,” and some clear understanding emerged. In preparing for Mrs. Utah, Kelly broke through inner ceilings in an unprecedented way and she stepped into a greater version of her self. She powerfully claimed her voice, her beauty, her capacity, her confidence, and most importantly, a firm belief in her own identity.
If you were close to her during her training, you witnessed hard work and 100% commitment in action. She married herself to a goal, and because of that, she transformed herself. Through the catalyst of the pageant, she became more of herself, which was most certainly a central purpose behind this experience. Kelly has an expansive life mission, and even though she has already been pursuing it, it has a larger destiny—much larger—and an unlimited future path is now possible because of the powerful woman who stepped off the stage of the pageant.
With or without the crown.
The purpose of life is not to do. It is to become. To become more of who we are is perfect success, no matter the end result.
Because we each creators in our own right, I believe we receive exactly what we ask for, or something better. The answer is always, yes, but sometimes it comes by being offered something greater than what we first desired.
I learned this five years ago when I was considering finishing my Bachelor’s degree and a clear answer came to me: Write a book.
Writing a book sounded like a good idea, but I had one core problem. I couldn’t write. Not to mention that I didn’t have an editor, a publisher, or a degree. Building a home on the moon seemed more plausible at the time, but in the end, I wrote. Then I wrote, and wrote, and wrote some more. Two years later, I received an international contract for the book and have been sharing universal truths on talk radio and with live audiences ever since.
Looking back, I remember how devastated I felt after I had decided to postpone my education, however, the joy, fulfillment and satisfaction I have obtained in writing and speaking far exceeds anything I could have ever come up with on my own. Of course, it is not the path for everyone, but it has been the perfect path for me and has reinforced my belief that there is a higher purpose to all outcomes that will always unfold in time. I believe this is true for all of us.
To Kelly, I would like to say thank you for taking a risk, paying a price for it, and showing up in such bold fashion for your life! You are an influential woman with a powerful life mission that will continue to unfold and we will all watch it with wonder and enthusiasm. You are an inspiration to this community of women.
And you are loved and supported every moment.
All My Love,
Heather Madder
