Triumphs and Failures on the Pageant Journey

Here we are again, another crazy-busy week (for all, I’m sure!) If you saw my kids’ playroom and bedrooms yesterday you’d wonder where their mother’s been…
This week was a full week, not only for me with Startup Princess events and pageant prep but with my son’s school play, Willy Wonka where he’s one of the 110 Oompa Loompas! School plays=long rehearsals and in the charter school where we go, it also means lots of volunteer hours. I was make up girl this week… lots of red cheeks, red lips, eye liner, and making sure kids behaved backstage, etc. It has been a fun and rewarding experience for everyone.
Looking back at the week I can see where I succeeded and well, failed. It’s time to re-evaluate things and plan on a better week!
Confessions
My fitness trainer, Liz left for vacation and uh, I guess I did too… I was supposed to workout at home… well, I did about 20 minutes of power yoga on Tuesday and my abs and push ups a few days, not exactly what I was supposed to do! Ugh. I’ll be sore this week!
I did sleep and catch up, but oversleeping two days wasn’t what I had in mind as it was at the expense of being late to a few appointments, missing opportunities to exercise, etc. This week I commit to be in bed by 11pm (under the covers, not heading to bed to get ready) and up by 5:30am, if I need a power nap I give myself permission to take one and if I can manage it, bed by 10:30pm is ideal.
Didn’t do well with my daily scripture reading like I planned, however, every time I was in the car I listened to spiritually uplifting talks, music. I must recommend Cherie Burton’s Permission to Shine CD for anyone who wants a Christian perspective on why we should take time and care with our health, wellness, and beauty.
Mind over Stomach!
I was given many chances to “cheat” this week with gluten, refined sugars, processed foods, and I did great! Even when I was at a buffet I could have selected a number of wonderful looking desserts, I passed and grabbed grapes. Today for my birthday I chose my friend, Startup Princess Raw Melissa’s Coconut Macaroons instead of Cold Stone’s (what I usually want!) and at my birthday dinner in Park City I asked for lettuce wraps instead of tortillas and still enjoyed the Ahi Tuna tacos, just my style and not with the weight/sluggishness of the flour behind it. And hurray for the school play cast party where the “treats” were veggie platters, and minimal sugary treats. My son and I loaded up on snap peas, cucumber, and bell pepper.
To date I’ve dropped one dress size (from 4/6 now I’m a 2/4) and lost 5 pounds since February 17, I have another 10 to go…and toning up with just 9 weeks left. I did do a couple of days of Isagenix shakes, but quit the 9-day program, just not for me right now, I felt too weak and unsteady mentally, emotionally, and it really messed up my digestion.
What a Difference a Good Bra Makes!
Ok, here’s another confession you might not want to know, the last bra I bought was at Shopko for $12 and let’s just say that you get what you pay for. This week I decided that I better get a new one and although I’m not a big Victoria’s Secret fan because of their recent marketing efforts, etc. (you can see the recent discussion about VS here and my comment that I wouldn’t shop there and then had to eat my words) however, when you’re in a rush, sometimes you go where it’s convenient and I have to admit I had awesome customer service there and love the results of my purchase. My new bra makes me want to have better posture and feels so feminine, which is always a plus.
My Pageant Photos
I’ll post my photo as soon when I get the file from Chad at Faces Photography. Chad does all of the girls for the pageant and I was so impressed with him. He took a lot of time with me and we shot nearly 100 images. We tried different lighting, different poses, and ultimately when we were done he had me see the results on a massive plasma screen so that I could be satisfied before I left his studio. I appreciated that because I had my hair and makeup done professionally beforehand and what a disappointment if he sent me 10 options via email the next day or something… he really wanted the experience to be a success for both of us. I took about 5 different outfits because I wanted him to help me choose what colors to wear because I was not sure what would convert to B&W best, I was glad I did this because my original ideas would not have been as effective. For me, wearing darker colors were his preference and they did seem to balance well with my darker hair color, etc.
C0-Host Internet Radio Show Opportunity
One of my goals this year is to host or co-host a radio or podcast show… well, the universe is aligning and last week an opportunity arose that will give me the experience to work with an established Co-host in the industry, our show will start this week and I’ll also be able to have my own show as well…more details to come. Better work on my elimination of all my Utah-isms (”you know”, “but”, “uh huh”,”anyways” etc.)
Happy 35th to Me
I had a wonderful birthday! My husband spoiled me with a trip up to Park City for lunch, a surprise massage at a day spa and filled my car with balloons, and seeing my cute son in his play, loved the day in every way! Turning 35 is a great year for me…I feel so blessed and excited about life, my relationship with God, my family, friends my future, and all that is in store, waiting for me to create and contribute to the world. Endless opportunities!
Today’s Magic Wand: This week take a moment to evaluate what’s already in your closet and make up kit, med
icine cabinet, etc. Take note of what’s on your Spring wishlist and ask the universe to bring it to you (this has happened to me many times where I’ll find exactly what I want on sale, extra resources become available, a friend gives me a hand-me-down, yard sale, consignment shop, etc.) It’s perfectly wonderful and great to ask for the desires of your heart, God loves you and wants you to feel and be healthy, beautiful, stylish… besides you’ve got a startup biz and family to run, you don’t need to rack up the bills shopping, right!? Who knows, cleaning things out might remind you that you already have a great Spring wardrobe and you might rediscover the perfect shade of berry lipstick. ![]()

Happy Birthday! It sounds like it was wonderful. It also sounds like things are really moving along with the pageant! Best wishes.
Way to go on your “confessions”. I am always having to confess things…but it’s a result of having lofty goals! What’s that saying…aim for the moon; you might not get there, but at least you’ll catch a few stars? There ya go. That works for me!
