After spending time searching for caps to markers Rebecca Davidson decided there had to be a betterway so she created the Cap Trapper, a product of her new company, Savvy May Creations to keep the caps of markers organized in one place. She spCap Trapper Originalsent years teaching and now is a mom of three so she knows a few things about searching for missing marker caps. Now there are no more dried out markers from missing caps and all markers are gathered in ONE place. Love it!

The Cap Trapper website has actual testimony from teachers, business professionals, scrapbookers and mothers who have used the Cap Trapper. Also, on the website is a link to Rebecca’s blog which offers a personal look at her journey as a new entrepreneur. Check out the post on her recent and first experience at a Startup Princess event, one of her first outings after her new baby.

The idea for the Cap Trapper was only conceived last November so the company is still in the early stages. Rebecca has made impressive progress considering it’s such a new company and she has 3 children, including a newborn!

Rebecca recently won $5000 from a college business plan competition which helped her to launch her company, way to “Make it Happen!”

Brief Summary of your startup: We sell fabulous little products called Cap Trappers, which keep your marker caps all in one place. They save you money in marker replacement costs, the frustration and disgust as you reach under the oven for marker caps, and time in clean up. They are also safe, no more caps in mouths, and fun. My children love them! Right now we just have one design available but I have a whole line we are developing of creative versions perfect for moms, teachers, professionals, kids, and crafters.

Company Website? www.SavvyMayCreations.com or www.CapTrappers.com

What inspired you? Years of frustration as a teacher and then as a mom of lost caps! It seemed to me everyone preferred markers but they were such a hassle. I knew there was a better way and one night, Presto! It came to me, Cap Trappers.

How long have you been in business? I only conceived the idea in November, so we are in the very beginning stages.

How did you fund it? I am a runner, last summer I was attacked by a dog and received $3,500 in settlement money. I don’t recommend this method to anyone. We also won $5,000 in business plan competition. I do recommend those! The rest is personal savings.

Do you have a Fairy Godmother (or Mentor)? Lots of them. I learned from my husband, an entrepreneur to glean as much information as you can from everyone. Everyone is an expert at something.

Do you belong to any Business Organization or Networking Groups? Not yet.

Current Business Challenge? Like most businesses, getting the word out. I am passionate about this product. I think moms and teachers everywhere will love this and it will make their days just a little better, like it has mine. I want to get it in their hands.

What are you doing about it? We are trying to create an organic epidemic. We are sending samples to everyone we know and asking them to tell their friends, blog about us and of course buy them on Amazon! Once we create some demand we will start to target brick and mortar retailers.

Favorite motivational quote: “Look at the world around you. It may seem like an immovable, implacable place. It is not. With the slightest push—in just the right place—it can be tipped.” The Tipping Point by Malcom Gladwell.

Family? A fabulous husband, two darling girls and our latest edition a, little boy the end of February.

If so, how do you balance family and business? Well, before our little bundle of love number 3, I was pretty in control. My girls go to bed at 6:00 pm so I could get tons done in the evenings. Lots of email and skype. Now with a newborn, wow, I am still trying to figure it out!

Favorite book? Cry the Beloved Country

What do you do to relax? Run for very long distances, pilates, and hot baths.

What do you want to change most about your world? I would love to have someone follow me and my children around and pick up the endless toys and messes we seem to make! That would free up so much time =)

What are you most proud of? My family and my passion for life

What advice would you like to offer other Startup Princesses? Write a business plan. It forces you to think through everything. It is such a huge project you really find out if you have the passion and desire to make your idea work. It also allows you great opportunities to enter competitions and receive money and great connections with mentors!

Favorite Magic Wand (tool/resource)? My business plan. It was a bear to write but it has been invaluable in moving our company forward. It has allowed us to receive input and ideas from so many outstanding professionals.

If you could design a tiara, what precious stones would you use? Diamonds. I love their clarity. I want to have that same clarity in how I run my business and my personal life. And of course they are really sparkly! What true girl doesn’t love sparkle?
