Name: Joy E. Adams

Hometown: None.  I am a military brat.

Current Residence (City, State): San Francisco, CA

Education: College at Point Loma Nazarene University and graduate school at the Kennedy School of Government

Professional Background (brief, please): I have a degree in political science and a master’s in public policy.  I became interested in bath products and aromatherapy in graduate school.

What you wanted to be when you grew up: a teacher

What you are: Happy as can be!

Brief Summary of your Start Up: Graduate school was really stressful and tough so I decided to create a line of relaxing products for frazzled women on the go.  I made some samples and wrote a business plan.  After moving to San Francisco from Boston, I set up my website, started doing shows and had a blast doing it all!

How did you fund it? My own savings

Do you have a Fairy Godmother (or Mentor)? There were many mentors along the way and all of them helped me get where I am today.

Do you belong to any Business Organization or Networking Groups? Yes. eWoman Network! I also try to go to as many other networking events as I can.

What do you want to change most about your world? My mom passed away due to complications from Lupus.  If I could change anything it would be that there would be a cure for painful diseases.

What are you most proud of? Finishing graduate school and starting my own business.

What advice would you like to offer other Start Up Princesses? Do price checks first.  So much information is out there for free.  Don’t try to do everything on your own!

Favorite Magic Wand (tool/resource)? Outlook 2007

If you could design a tiara, what precious stones would you use? Maybe a few sapphires.

Would you be interested in being a Fairy Godmother to another woman entrepreneur? (I am working on a secure system to do this, any ideas?) Sure, depending on the hours…
