What an incredible, unexpected miracle these past few months have been as I’ve prepared to compete for the position of Mrs. Utah United States. Thursday is the Interview with the Judges (40% of our score) and Friday is the Celebration evening event (remaining 60%).
Even though I’m still in the midst of preparing for the event, and things are very intense I wanted to take a moment to give thanks and express my love and appreciation to everyone here at Startup Princess. When I faced this competition in February I was excited, yet nervous, uncertain, and overwhelmed, but now I have complete peace, joy, and confidence because I’m ready. I’m ready because of the incredible mentors that have taught, inspired, trained, refined, and shown me who I am at a deeper level. I can honestly say that I am not the same person spiritually, emotionally, mentally, or physically that I was 3 months ago and for that I already feel like a “crown of blessings” has been placed on my head.
I’ll be the first to admit it’s been hard, really really hard to get up super early (4:30am sometimes!) to workout, develop discipline and habits I didn’t already have, to see my weaknesses magnified, confront fears, identify limiting beliefs and self-perceptions, and to recognize what it would really take to be ready for this competition… but in the process of being humbled, I am/was brought to my knees, the very best place to be and I kept asking for His help and guidance and as a result he answered me over and over again. God continually brought me a mentor, a friend, a dress, a book, a product, an idea, added strength for me to move forward. What an intense beautiful lesson in ‘asking and receiving!’
Last weekend I cried as I reflected on all of the mentors and the gifts they offered to me, gifts I deeply appreciate. Here’s a few examples: Liz gave me the gift of “loving my body for evolving and working so hard”, Cherie gave me the gift of “loving a bit of glamour”, Laurett gave me the gift of “solid and authentic answers in response to tough questions” and My mom gives me the gift “focusing.” There are so many to list specifically, although each will get a big thank you privately… over 50 people have given me a gift, a sponsorship, an insight, or in some way contributed! Who would have guessed that competing in a pageant would bring so much love? so much service? so many friends? so many gifts?? Now is the time to claim them all and demonstrate that I can Make a Wish, Make it Happen! Because of who I’ve become because of who He’s made me, and because of all the people who have shared their treasures with me.
This week is about JOY in Celebrating the Royalty Within. I truly believe that everyone has the power within to fulfill their dreams. I am co-creator with God and encourage others to do the same!
How you can help me: I need your positive energy, your love, your light, your prayers Wed-Sat. as I prepare, compete, and decompress from it all. I specifically need “courage to shine, to bring forth all of my light, love, and joy so that others seeing me will know that I desire to make a difference in my state to ”Empower Women to Fulfill their Dreams in Business.” Please pray that I can communicate the passion and heart behind the message and what a great cause this is particularly in difficult economic times for women who are single or married who need income or additional streams of income for security, peace, and necessity and want to use their unique gifts and talents.

I’m so excited for you Kelly! You deserve every bit of support and every “gift” you have received! You have given so much service and support to others, now it is your turn to receive. I know you will do awesome at the pageant and I can’t wait to be there to cheer you on! Hang in there and keep it up.
Break a leg Kelly! We’ll be cheering from the east coast.

Kelly,
I couldn’t have been more proud of you at the pageant last night! You were stunning and amazing…a real inspiration to us all! Congrats!
Kelly,
I was so proud of you last night! You worked so hard and you looked stunning. My finance said you look great in a swimsuit (nothing to worry about there!). We cheered so loud to see you make the first cut, then the 1st runner up.
I was also impressed with the mother of 10, and the grandmother.
I made a joke that you have to be blond to win - since the two most recent Mrs. Utah are blond.
Your business savvy and confidence really stood out. I hope you relax a little and celebrate your success!
Love
Janet

Hello to everyone!!
What a great week, thank you to all my dear friends who sent me their love, encouragement and prayers. I felt incredibly peaceful the entire week (even on stage, never nervous) and everything went really well; I know this was because of all prayers on my behalf! Thank you, thank you!
So if you didn’t catch Janet’s comment, I won 1st Runner up and the Interview award. All the hard work and focus paid off. I am very happy for Emily Nelson, she’s a dear friend and I love her!
Now it’s time to focus on Startup Princess again and my yard!! School’s out this week so we’ll have lots of fun times with the kids too.
I’ll post up some photos of the experience soon…
Congrats Kelly. What a wonderful accomplishment and experience for you. It has been fun to read about your adventures and journey. I’m excited to see the pictures!
