Here’s Our Start Up Princess Pitch to BYU Marketing Wizards and Fairy Godmothers

If you're new here, you may want to subscribe to my RSS feed. Thanks for visiting!

This week I was a judge at the BYU Elevator Pitch competition and have written a bit this week about pitches, so it’s only fair that I share my latest pitch for BYU Marketing Students. Today I’m trying to recruit a few Marketing Wizards and Fairy Godmothers to help Start Up Princess.com evolve into the business it’s desined to become…I’d love to get any feedback on it as well since I’m always looking to improve, so please comment below.

The Pitch:

Good Morning Marketing Wizards and Fairy Godmothers. I’m here to see if a few of you would be willing to share your magic with my company Start Up Princess.com

You know the saying, “I wear many hats?”

Well, I’m a princess so I wear crowns, three of them.

The first crown I wear is as wife, mother of 3 young children. I have a undergraduate degree in Humanities and a graduate degree in Children’s Theatre here at BYU. While I was a grad student in 2005 I had an idea to start a children’s experience retail business called Princess Sweet.

That is when I started to wear my second crown as Founder of Princess Sweet (now called Sweet & Charming).

I took this idea to the Center for Entrepreneurship and they loved the concept and encouraged me to develop it and enter competitions. Our team did well. We made it to the semi-finals here at BYU and then won 2nd place nationally at the Wake Forest Competition in North Carolina. We were also a finalist (10th place) at a global compeition at Rice out of 160 MBA teams. While I was working on this concept and pitching for funding I repeatedly would talk to other mom entrepreneurs I knew were successful to see how they were balancing home, family, and start up and ask them for advice. I was always emailing them late at night because that is when mom entrepreneurs work. Then one day I realized that it would be more effective to write down the ideas I was collecting online so we all could see the ideas.

That is when I started to wear my third crown as the Founder of Start Up Princess.com. This was July of 2006. I knew that when we found Start Up Princess as a name that it was special because every woman entrepreneur is the princess of her business and it’s worked well for us. Our tag is “Make a Wish, Make it Happen.”

At first this site was for a small group of 5-6 mom entrepreneurs. I would interview and feature different Start Up Princesses each week and share a “magic wand tip of the day” that would be a helpful resource for them. Well, suddenly women began contacting me that I didn’t kow and now we have 100 Start Up Princesses and Fairy Godmothers (mentors) in our network from all over the USA and Canada. Locally we meet monthly for Networking Tea Parties and we just had our first conference two weeks ago with our Utah members.

Our site receives about 200 visitors a day, a total of nearly 24,000 views since July. We would like to ACCELERATE GROWTH and get 1,000 visitors daily and begin to have site advertising and sponsors.

We just received a major sponsorship from a graphic designer and web developer to redesign our site and help us to create our brand visually. On the new site we will start to offer a paid membership opportunity with various benefits to help them succeed in their start ups. We would also like to Accelerate Growth in our membership. We have 100 members now, but would like to have 3000 members at the end of the year.

We are currently targeting women entrepreneurs/mom entrepreneurs and have mostly a group of women under 35, we’d like to refine our ANGLE and niche and find a way to attract mom entrepreneurs as well as mentors/Fairy Godmothers who have a lot of experience in business to share their insights, speak at our events, and be guest bloggers. Currently we have 10 contributing Fairy Godmothers who write for us and speak at our events, we could strengthen this base.

We are excited to transition Start Up Princess from a hobby into a self-sustaining business that helps women all over the world to “Make a Wish, Make it Happen.”

As you can see, I can really use some magic to help me balance my three crowns…so, I invite you to wear your crown and bring your magic wand to join our Marketing team because we all have “every gift, talent, and ability to make all our dreams come true”, we just need a kingdom of resources and a strong network to do it. I am convinced that with some strategy and a strong Marketing Plan in place we will achieve our dreams for 2007. As you can see, we have fun at Start Up Princess and enjoy an international network of high level entrepreneurs, we invite you to join the kingdom.

Please contact me via email at Kelly at Start Up Princess.com. Thank you.

Wonderful! It’s hard to believe that you started in July of 2006. Your site has come a long way! I think that one of the secrets to your sucess is that women entrepenuers relate to one another on a deeper level. We all understand how challenging it is to run a home and a business. We celebrate other women’s successes and their successes become our inspirations. I’m very proud to be listed on your site and I have to say that every business woman that I have met on your site has been a blessing to me. Keep up the good work and here’s to a great new year!!

Start Up Princess Marina & Start Up Princess Lisa,
Thank you for your kind words and continual active participation with this site. It is women like you that have made this site what it is…and what it is becoming. I seriously love the women here and love their stories. You all inspire me because you’re up late, up early, and going at your mom duties all day long…hoping to make a difference in your own way…I appreciate the well wishes and I know that 2007 WILL be awesome for Start Up Princess because of the redesign and the momentum is really moving forward, so ALL of us will get more exposure and hopefully continue to learn a lot from each other.

May your dreams continue to evolve,
    Kelly
