Discover Stumble Upon.com

June 4, 2007

Many of us behind the scenes here at Start Up Princess are absolutely buzzing about Stumble Upon.com You can register on the site for free and if you have your own website, get your friends to register as well and then you can request that they “stumble upon” your site on occasion to drive your traffic through the roof! :) Fairy Godmother Ponn Sabra of Empower Women Now’s post about “How to Stumble Upon” is helpful for newbies (like me), you have to download a tool bar, restart your web browser and then you’re in business…it’s fun and there’s a lot of “power” in stumbling I think because you are voicing an opinion on what you like and don’t on the web…you are required to mark any site you stumble as “adult” or “not adult” which I like too so then people don’t stumble on sites they would prefer to skip. Stumble Upon will increase your traffic, so use it when you want a boost! It’s my #1 referrer besides Google. I highly recommend it!

    Kelly,

I just registered, downloaded the bar, and restarted my browser, but what next? How do I get One Heart Bulgaria on there? Please advise. :)

    Kelly
Thanks for the mention. Every since I “actively” started with StumbleUpon the past 10 days, they are my #1 referrer of traffic! It is so great! Friendly network of “friends”, great stumbles come my way, etc.

    Deborah
Please follow the directions step-by-step in my blogpost Kelly refers too. Now that you have your browser ready to “stumble” webpages, you need to register as a member of StumbleUpon, build a profile page, etc.

    Hi Kelly,
Thanks for your recent visit & comment. I’ve come to visit and love what you’ve got going on. I will add you to my RSS and StumbleUpon you, too. I have only JUST, very recently, graduated from a NON-techie to a LOW-techie, although I’ve been blogging a while. I’m trying to get the hang of all of these referral & organization sites. I really like StumbleUpon, and MyBlogLog (love love love those little faces!), and I’m trying to catch up with Technorati and Del.icio.us (?). I’m still back in the pre-K AdSense, grrr, but my techie-hubby is trying to help me along. Take Care! ;-)

Okay, another question, I don’t see non-profits or charities listed in the categories you can select for your personal “stumbling desires” so how would other stumblers be able to stumble on my non-profit? What category would it be in other than non-profits? How do you purposely stumble on someone elses site? Sorry, I’m just not quite getting the hand of this and just need some clarity.

Sherri, our new “rebel” Start Up Princess (SUP!)
Thanks for the comment and yes, I’m a “low techie” myself, but the benefits of figuring out social bookmarking sites like Stumble Upon are amazing…thanks for the stumble, I returned the favor!

Deborah, first of all, I think you should submit “non-profit” as a new category, I’m sure they would add it and it should be there. People may stumble upon your site under business…but that wouldn’t really be the right fit, so I agree, see if you can get them to add that.

Deborah & Jamie, Here’s how you “get someone to stumble your site” first of all, find out who is into “stumble upon” that you know (you both know Me, for example) and perhaps we should start a Start Up Princess stumble group to help one another…but once you identify what blog post or page on your site you want to have “stumbled” copy and paste it into an email and send a request like, “Kelly, please stumble this: http://www.craftybabies.com” and then I receive the email, paste the URL into my stumble upon browser and click the “thumbs up” icon. If it’s a new site to discover like when I did Jamie’s tonight, then I put down her category (which was pregancy/birth) and a brief summary and submitted, that was it, now here site has been stumbled and anyone else from this point on will just keep giving it thumbs up ratings…unless they also want to do a review of it which is always nice! ;)

    Hi all!

GREAT to see such interest in learning how this one internet marketing strategy can/will/is doing fabulous things to everyone’s traffic and more!

Kelly asked me to shed some more light on some of the above questions:

    1. Here’s a post on Del.icio.us for Beginners

    2. Here’s a starting-point post for Technorati

This is only aspect of Technorati, you need to “Claim Your Blog” to get favorite Fans under you.

    3. To learn the 4 of the Top 6 social networking/bookmarking sites along with me and dozen others, interesting in sharing the link-love, spreading good news around the web (all the reasons Kelly and I feel so passionately about StumbleUpon and their competitors), start here.

    4. Then, go to today’s post with quick directions for Netscape, LinkedIn, and more Networking Tips Specifically Online and the success gained (less time-intensive posting on the blog day in and day out…as I’m a Jane-of-all-traits…but, *not* simply a blogger). Details here.

Feel free to post comments, questions, issues on any of the particular services via the direct post you read and I’ll try my best to answer any and all your questions.

    Kelly,

That was great, detailed info, thanks. Now I understand. However, if the people you invite do not have the stumble toolbar, they won’t be able to click on the thumbs up icon. So what’s the point there? Are you just hoping they are a fellow “stumbler.”

I think it’s definitely a great idea to make a list of Startup Princesses who are doing the stumble thing and include their URL’s so we can stumble each others’ sites and help boost each others’ ratings (is that how it works?).

  12. Jamie Dadant on June 7th, 2007 1:31 pm

Hi Kelly, Thanks for the clarification. It seems to make sense now.
Thank you for stumbling onto my site! My site has already received numerous visitors from the stumble upon website! I just stumbled upon your site and gave you a thumbs up!
I would love to get a group of start up princesses together that would be interested in stumbling upon eachothers sites.
Thanks for all your work on this!

Ponn, thanks for the comment and additional info for social bookmarking sites, etc. I need to learn delicious next.

    Deb&Jamie,
Glad things are becoming more clear…
I have put together a group for start up princess members to stumble…so Deb, Jamie, Ponn and anyone else who wants to do this, email me or comment here. ;)

Got something to say?
