Name:       DeBorah Beatty

Hometown:  Agana, Guam

Current Residence (City, State):  Walla Walla, WA

Education:  Private Boarding Schools then Southern Oregon University, BA in Social Sciences

Professional Background (brief, please): Entrepreneur since I first sold Girl Scout cookies at age 7 (I was a Brownie) and got a taste of “the thrill”.  Worked as Administrative Professional for 20+ years till I tired of doing with no credit.  I’ve been self-employed now for 13 years. I’ve been a designer, a speaker, a sales trainer and a traveling artist.  Now I’m taking what I have learned the hard way and teaching/coaching others.

What you wanted to be when you grew up:  Never really thought about it. Writer, maybe?

What you are: Speaker/Trainer/Facilitator/Coach on one hand and an artist on the other.

Brief Summary of your Start Up: I have two: DEBORAHBEATTY.COM (DBC) is dedicated to solopreneurs and mompreneurs. I’m working to educate and motivate.  My other startup is DreamSpace Arts (DSA) where I’m working to create an support organization through which people who have been silenced by violence, abuse or illness to find their voices via art.

Company Website? www.deborahbeatty.com and www.dreamspacearts.com

What inspired you?  For DBC, having been a single mother trying to make ends meet by being a sales rep for direct sales companies (Tupperware, Herbalife, etc.) and feeling frustrated and hopeless when there wasn’t a soul I could ask questions of.  For DSA, having found my own voice out of a long bout of depression by creating artwork.

How long have you been in business? I started DBC in June 2007, DSA in May of 2005.  My husband and I have been running a hand-dyed clothing company since 1/1999.

How did you fund it?  Personal funds and a whole lot of faith.  Couldn’t get any funding from normal sources.

Do you have a Fairy Godmother (or Mentor)?  No

Do you belong to any Business Organization or Networking Groups? Yes.  Several.

Walla Walla Valley Chamber of Commerce
Blue Mountain Business Builders
A conscious business circle I have just begun
Savvy Women’s Business Club

Current Business Challenge?  Customers/clients.  Walla Walla has not yet seen the advantage in having a business coach or attending workshops

What are you doing about it? Educating the heck out of everyone I meet, writing tons of articles and submitting them everywhere, blogging my fingers off and networking, networking, networking.

Favorite motivational quote:  “The journey of a thousand miles is begun with but a single step. “  Lao Tzu

Family? Yes.  Hubby, Rich and 4-legged son, Hobo. Have a daughter 30 who lives in California

If so, how do you balance family and business?  Constantly being aware and scheduling everything

Favorite book?  Hmmm, this week, “The Secret”.

What do you do to relax?  Music, computer games, dyeing fabric and clothing

What do you want to change most about your world?  I’d like it not to be so tight financially.

What are you most proud of?  I never give up.  I’m an absolute master at starting over.

What advice would you like to offer other Startup Princesses? ASK, ASK, ASK! and never think you know it all.

Favorite Magic Wand (tool/resource)? My peers.

If you could design a tiara, what precious stones would you use?  Rubies for love and healing mine and others’, diamonds for clarity of vision, and alexandrite for transformation
