Congratulations to Mrs. Utah United States 2009, Karmel Larson, a Startup Princess!

April 26, 2009

What an amazing competition! 21 beautiful contestants with incredible platforms competed on Saturday April 25th for the title of Mrs. Utah United States 2009. The event brought back a flood of emotions and memories because just one year ago I was competing for the same title (I won 1st Runner up and the Interview award). Two Startup Princess friends competed, Jennifer Griffiths and Karmel Larson and it was a joy to see others I had competed with last year compete again. The whole night I was a nervous wreck which is hilarious since I wasn’t competing! Last year I was complete PEACE, no jitters at ALL!

If it’s ok to admit (no offense to the others, I love you all!) I was cheering the loudest for Karmel because I recommended she compete last year and I’ve been keeping in touch with her training and preparations. When she told me she was going to rent the same gown I wore I said no, you should wear white. And I’m so glad she did! She bought a winning gown from Heather Osmond who was Mrs Utah America 2007. I also gave Karmel a mock interview a couple weeks ago and gave her feedback. I suggested she compete last Spring because I knew her platform would be so strong and it was such a joy to see her go the distance with all of her personal training and preparations. She trained with both Cherie Burton and Liz Rosenbaum like I did, they are wonderful, inspiring women!

When Karmel made top 10 I wasn’t surprised…I hoped she’d make it all the way and she did!! She made her wish and made it happen! I also believe it’s God’s will for her to serve and share her important message this year. Right after she did her “walk” as Utah’s new Queen, I raced up to the stage and gave her one of her first hugs as Mrs. Utah. What a joy that was for me to be a part of that moment!

Karmel is a mom of 4 little ones, busy with service, two businesses, and homeschools her kids! She’s a woman we can all learn from. She’s very structured with her time and I have learned a great deal from watching her and being her friend over the years. Utahns are so blessed to have her!

Karmel’s platform is “Declaring Decency”, (anti-pornography, values in media, and beyond) a platform for our time–much needed!! She has deep roots in her platform as she’s been serving the President of the Utah County Chapter of American Mothers, Inc., County Director for the Parents Television Council as well as running her businesses.

Karmel was on a panel for our Startup Princess Touchpoint Conference in 2008, we’d love to have her back! Congrats, Karmel! Much love and appreciation for having the courage to SHINE, go out of your comfort zone to compete so you can serve Utahns. Best wishes in your preparations for Mrs. United States and also with your role as Mrs. Utah! I’ll never stop cheering for you!

Find out Why Janice Croze, Co-Founder of 5 Minutes for Mom.com is Attending The Startup Princess Academy at Disneyland

5 Minutes For Mom

It is simply too good to miss.

So last week, a mere hour before the early bird deadline ended, I signed up for Startup Princess Academy in DisneylanJandJ-headshot-150pix.jpgd.

Even though I will be speaking at Startup Princess Touchpoint September 18th in SLC and even though my schedule is packed so tight I get tired just looking at my calendar, I decided it would be madness to miss out on this unbelievable chance to network, learn and share with top online marketing experts like Maria Andros and Alexis Neely in such an intimate setting.

Quite honestly, Kelly has developed an unbelievable opportunity. To have a chance to interact with such A-list women is priceless.

I just have to go and absorb everything I can from these incredible women – and it doesn’t hurt that it is all happening in the happiest place on earth! I can’t wait…

Utah Business Podcast Interviews Startup Princess

February 20, 2009

Recently I was interviewed by UB Radio, of Utah Business, as a follow up to my cover in January. I talked quite a bit about the challenges of balancing motherhood and business as well as the future plans for Startup Princess… what a surreal experience it’s been to have the exposure and visibility, a tremendous unexpected honor (although funny to hear that the local bank’s copy someone had drawn a mustache on my face!) I found out that the last woman to be on the cover (alone) of this magazine was two years ago. It’s definitely time for THAT to change. Can’t wait to see one of our Startup Princesses on the cover next!

Enthusiastic Startup Princess Orange County, CA Chapter Launches

January 28, 2009

On Monday Jan 26th 40 women gathered in Ladera Ranch to launch the Startup Princess Orange County Chapter, our FIRST one outside of Utah (and my home state). Initially we hoped to get 20 women there, so we were pleasantly surprised. And can I say the OC Startup Princesses are soo TALENTED! BRILLIANT! BEAUTIFUL! INSPIRING! GENEROUS! and FUN! We are so blessed to find the jewels of OC women entrepreneurs.

I loved meeting all the new Startup Princesses and conducting the event. Ciaran Blumenfeld was made a Fairy Godmother at the event for all of her contributions to other women in business and her success as a fashion designer (her previous company was sold in 250 boutiques!) We networked all night in small groups, had wonderful giveaways (including 3 memberships to the chapter) and took applications for the chapter presidency “Royal Court.” We had 10 people apply so we’re thrilled to see the interest level and volunteers (I haven’t selected them yet). Membership for OC is just $149 for 7 more mtgs in 2009 and also includes discounts to larger Startup Princess events in Anaheim, SLC, and NYC.

Three cheers to Monique of Wow Design who sponsored decorations and put together a stunning party!!  BEAUTIFUL clubhouse, magical decor, delicious food too!

Here’s a video of us pre-guests with Monique making the final touches:

Can’t wait to hear about their next event in February…kind of sad I can’t be there myself! Luv these women!!

The Organizers, Plus an Interview with Debbie Savage of Baby Emi (we’re missing Jamie Dadant in the video, bummer!)

Many thanks to Debbie Savage, Jamie Dadant, and Carrie Lundell for encouraging us to launch a group, bringing food and inviting their friends. And much love to Ciaran Blumenfeld who set up the club membership at Ladera Ranch so our group can meet there and connected us to Monique and other fabulous women. Enjoy our videos!!

Meet some of the Startup Princesses of OC!
