Today’s Magic Wand: www.yousendit.com; if you’ve never used it, you should try it next time you have to send a large file like a document loaded with graphics or another large file. I’ve used it this week several times for requesting WAV files from musicians for a benefit CD for One Heart Bulgaria. It’s FREE.
Quit Burning Your Candle at Both Ends
November 6, 2006
Today’s Magic Wand: I’ve been famous for doing this my whole life. I think I was born multi-tasking. I’m trying to remember what Fairy Godmother Kristen Lamb recently told us in her profile, that no matter what you do today there’s more to do tomorrow, so she’s trying to quit burning her candle at both ends. Me too!! See if you can do it just one day a week for starters.
Go to bed before midnight, I dare you.
Be A Colour Lover
November 5, 2006
Today’s Magic Wand: My new favorite design site is www.colourlovers.com; you can view, search, and discover amazing colors and palettes. You can even submit your own colors and name them. It’s a great resource for designing anything from a postcard to a bedroom where you need to select colors. Check out one of my favorite palettes, Key to the Gate. Thanks to Start Up Princess Lisa Rousseau of Walking Spree, for the tip!
When To Create Discussion Forums
November 4, 2006
The following post was written by Fairy Godmother, Holly Buchanan. Holly is a Marketing Expert. She is VP of Client Services for Future Now. She writes an excellent blog about marketing to women online and is currently preparing to release a book on the topic written with Michele Miller.
Holly writes:
One of the best ways to generate word of mouth and create brand evangelists is to create a discussion forum. What could be better than giving hundreds, thousands, or even millions of your customers or potential customers a forum where they can talk about your products day night? They can swap stories and passions and ideas.
Many companies think creating a discussion forum is a great idea. They think, “of course - people love us and our products - they’d like nothing better than to have a place where they can meet and talk about us for hours”.
I wonder what would happen if I, Holly Buchanan, created my own discussion forum. All my fans could congregate and talk about me and all the things I’m passionate about, from marketing to women, to addictions to Swedish Fish , to what to do about your Boston Terrier’s snoring problem.
There’s just one problem - no one cares about Holly Buchanan. (Ok, my mom does, but…..)
Do people share some of my same passions? Sure they do. I know I have more than one reader, so someone other than my mother is reading the blog. But is my brand strong enough that people really want to talk about me? No, it’s not.
Yet many companies think their customers are so passionate about the company and what it sells that, of course, they need a discussion forum. Apple needs a discussion forum - you probably don’t…….unless……
Introducing Fairy Godmother Kristen Lamb
November 3, 2006
Meet Fairy Godmother Kristen Lamb, of Design it Boutique and Chain Breaker Foundation, from Woodland Hills, Utah. Kristen has a wealth of experience in design, marketing, retail, and business consulting. Prior to launching her own interior design business, Kristen helped build her husband’s decking business to be #1 in the state and then sell it. They enjoy working together and have created their businesses to suit a large family of five children. I have greatly enjoyed getting to know Kristen and learning from her. So much, that I’ve invited her to be a Fairy Godmother and guest speaker at our January Make A Wish, Make it Happen 2007 Start Up Princess Conference. She has a beautiful personality, clear about her priorities, and has a polished sense of style. Kristen’s also comfortable being a “Princess” because she was Mrs. Utah 2003! Even her platform was about the royalty within.

Introducing Start Up Princess Stephanie Peterson
November 1, 2006
Meet Today’s Mama Co-Founder and CFO, Stephanie Peterson. Stephanie and Rachael Herrscher, Co-Founder were walking down the mall one day discussing how to find a go
od swimming class when it dawned on them that there should be more resources for mamas…hence, they developed their now nationally booming business and have since landed angel funding and are working on many innovative ways to reach Today’s Mamas.
I had the opportunity recently to ask Stephanie some questions about how she manages to run a growing business while being a young mom.
