Now Accepting Applications for our 2012 Fairy Godmothers!

November 1, 2011

We credit much of the success of Startup Princess to our amazing Fairy Godmothers.  Successful and established women entrepreneurs have served as mentors and friends to the Startup Princess community.  Rachael Herrscher, Danielle LaPorte, and Carol Rice, just to name a few.  These women have provided posts on our site, spoken at our events and coached women in our network.

Startup Princess is excited to announce a new Fairy Godmother program!  For 2012, we’ll be selecting 10 women entrepreneurs.  In the past, women have been personally invited based on who we knew in our Startup Princess community.  This year, we’re accepting applications from our broad network!  We will be selecting women based on their level of expertise in their particular fields and we will only have one woman per industry.

For example, we will only have one marketing expert, branding expert, success expert, etc.  Though we will only feature ten women entrepreneurs here are some subjects we are interested in:
Marketing & Advertising
Public Relations
Social Media
Product Development
Success
Inspiration
Professional Dress & Image
Graphic Design & Branding
Online Strategies – Website and Email
Legal
Accounting
Human Resources
Operations and Business Strategy
Customer Service Programs
…or create your own!

Here’s how it works:
Fairy Godmothers will now serve for one calendar year.  Each Fairy Godmother will provide six unique posts during 2012.  They can be written articles or video posts.  Complimenting our editorial calendar, each Fairy Godmother will also be featured during the month where her area of expertise is our content focus.  For example, if the editorial focus for the month is Social Media, that Fairy Godmother will have the featured interview for the month, two or more of her posts will appear that month, she will be a guest host on one of our #startupchat’s on Twitter, and she will be the featured speaker on Startup Princess’s monthly teleconference series.   In addition, our Fairy Godmothers will be invited to participate in our annual conference at the end of the year.

Our Fairy Godmothers will receive:
– Listing under Fairy Godmothers on our Website

- Interview on StartupPrincess.com
– A Startup Princess sponsored teleconference during the month her expertise is highlighted.

- Bios and pictures on every post submitted by Fairy Godmother with link backs to Fairy Godmother’s site.

- Exposure through our social media networks on Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, etc.

Here’s what we’re looking for:

- A woman entrepreneur that has seen success in business.
– A woman who is an expert in her industry or field.  Or has excelled in a specific area in business.  For example, you can be a marketing expert, even if you – aren’t a marketing consultant.
– A woman who is committed to the Startup Princess community and brand and is committed to helping other women entrepreneurs.

If you fit the bill, we encourage you to fill out the form below (or nominate someone you know that would be a good fit!)

Being Patient with Progress in Business when Life Needs You

July 20, 2009

plantingMy 5 yr old just completed an intense two week-long struggle with health issues. She slept little, ate less, cried a lot and we spent many hours trying to figure out what she needed to get better. It turned out to be a kidney infection and she’s doing fine now, but both my husband and I are still wiped out physically and emotionally from tending to her 24/7. Now that she’s doing better, I can get back to attending what I missed during that time. The “To Do’s” on my iphone are glaring at me and I’m a bit overwhelmed about what’s ahead Read more

Looking to Raise Cash in Today’s Economy? Here’s Some Hope!

February 17, 2009

Fairy Godmother Rachael Herrscher of Today’s Mama writes: I was sent this interesting article by the president of Utah’s CFO Solutions – a very smart guy!

If you are looking to raise cash in todays economy I think this is a good read to give you some perspective into what is on VC’s and investors minds and how the game has changed over time.  Check out ”Another View: V.C. Investing Not Dead, Just Different”

I don’t know many businesses these days that are focused on going public rather I think most have the focus of an M&A deal at some later date in business so I think many of us our have our eyes set on the right horizons.  A good quote from this post:

“I believe that the paradigm has changed for the venture business. We can no longer realistically expect the same kinds of absolute returns that were achieved in the past through a quick turnaround from start-up to liquidity through an I.P.O. Rather, I believe that most of the companies that venture capitalists are funding today will find an exit through merger or acquisition. And if we expect to achieve a return in a reasonable time frame of three to five years, we are probably looking at a sale price of $20 million to $100 million. This is the valuation range where most young companies are being acquired.”

In general it’s good to hear some upbeat perspectives and outlooks in the world today so I especially appreciated his closing statement:

“Venture capital is definitely not dead or even ill; rather it has just taken on a new set of dynamics. Entrepreneurs in this country are stronger than ever, and venture capitalists are the ones to nurture them!”

here’s the press release:

Sittercity.com and TodaysMama.com Team Up to Offer Free Babysitting on Election Day
Through MamaVote Initiative, Partners Work to Get Moms Out to Vote in 2008 Election

SALT LAKE CITY and CHICAGO. October 7, 2008 I want to vote, but I dont have anyone to watch the kids. I cant leave them home alone! When you’re a mom, balancing your parental responsibilities with your civic duty seems more and more daunting as Election Day approaches. But not this year! TodaysMama <http://www.todaysmama.com/>  and Sittercity.com <http://www.sittercity.com/>  today announced that as part of the MamaVote <http://www.mamavote.com/>  initiative, they will offer free and discounted babysitting on Election Day, November 4, 2008. From October 27 to November 3, all individuals who sign up for a membership at SitterCity.com with the promotional code MamaVote08 will be eligible for 50 percent off babysitting on Election Day. In addition, the first 50 individuals to register will receive free babysitting for two hours on Election Day.
TodaysMama joined with the League of Women Voters and Sittercity.com to launch MamaVote last year, a non-partisan, education and inspiration-based initiative that encourages mothers to get involved in the political process. By offering discounted, reliable babysitting, these organizations hope to get more women to the polls.

“Mothers make up one of the most powerful voting blocks in our nation,” said Rachael Herrscher, co-founder and CEO of TodaysMama. “We want to encourage all mothers to vote, and finding a babysitter can be a big road block. Mothers can and do make a difference every day, and we are excited to see the voter turnout for this historical election.

In the current political environment, U.S. women are significantly under-represented in public office. There are 87 women serving in the Senate and House, making up just 16 percent of Congress. The U.S. ranks 66th in the world in the percentage of women in national parliaments – trailing such nations as Iraq, Cuba, South Africa and China. In the 2004 election, women voted at a 65 percent rate, compared with 62 percent of men. Most analysts believe that women constitute the vast majority of swing voters, making election cycles potentially more dynamic and less predictable.

“We are honored to partner with TodaysMama and the League of Women Voters to make it easier for women to vote in key U.S. cities by providing them with reliable election-day child care,” said Genevieve Thiers, founder and CEO of Sittercity. “The nation and its children will benefit tremendously from having even more mothers involved in the process of electing public servants.”

May 5, 2008

A lot of people ask me how and why we started this business. What were the events that led up to it? What was that moment like? Read more

Startup Princess is an international network committed to empowering Women Entrepreneurs by offering resources for women in business to support, mentor, collaborate, learn from, and inspire one another. In 2006, after struggling to raise funding for an initial startup business venture, Kelly King Anderson recognized an important market niche existed for reliable resources educating women desiring to start and grow successful businesses, thus Startup Princess was developed.

Successful women entrepreneurs understand that for every business venture, they are in charge of creating, organizing, developing, managing, and assuming all the risks associated with their enterprise. That can seem quite intimidating but as other women business owners will tell you, it’s a lot of work, but it’s worth it! Success is within your grasp and Startup Princess is here to help.
