Stephanie Peterson, Today’s Mama

Name: Stephanie Peterson

Hometown: Salt Lake City

Current Residence (City, State): Millcreek

Education: still working on it, but I will eventually graduate

Professional Background (brief, please): I have mostly worked as a project manager on construction projects, but my last job before I had my first boy was as a loan processor, which I loved.

What you wanted to be when you grew up: a contractor (actually I still want to be one)

What you are: a mama and entrepenuer

Brief Summary of your Start Up: We released The Utah Mama’s Handbook and are now franchising in other states (Arizona, Houston, Seattle, Las Vegas, and Washington DC)
We also released a national website www.todaysmama.com with an online magazine and a market place with other mama’s products called Support Your Local Mama.

Company Website? www.todaysmama.com

What inspired you? Being a new mom and feeling that there wasn’t anything out there for mom’s to look to for good information in their area.

How long have you been in business? 2 years

How did you fund it? An SBA loan through Zion’s Women Financial Group

Do you have a Fairy Godmother (or Mentor)? Not really… I just keep trying to push myself and do the best I can.

Do you belong to any Business Organization or Networking Groups? no

Current Business Challenge? Time…there is so much to do and not enough time.

What are you doing about it? Finding some good babysitters to help out (my sister).

Favorite motivational quote:

We are what we repeatedly do. Excellence then, is not an Act, but a habit.

Don’t ask yourself what the world needs; ask yourself what makes you come alive. And then go and do that. Because what the world needs is people who are alive.

Family? My husband is a great support and has pushed me through when I wanted to quit.

I also have to boys who keep me busy Logan (3) and Lincoln (1).

If so, how do you balance family and business? I’m still figuring it out, I guess just taking one day at a time.

Favorite book? Mitten Strings for God and Fred Factor

What do you do to relax? I love being active outside (hiking, swimming, biking)

What do you want to change most about your world? I want everyone to quit being so concerned about what they have or what they need to have and start paying attention to the hard issues that are facing our children, education, child violence, obesity and the fact that moms and dads maybe don’t care about what their kids are doing and are more concerned about their own success. Don’t get me started!!

What are you most proud of? My amazing boys and successful husband. These boys are the cream of the crop, they are bright, kind and energetic. What more could a mom ask for.
My husband is successful because he takes such an active role as being a father. He bathes our sons every night and spends more than 13 minutes a day with then (which is the national average). That is true success. I’m so proud of him for that.

What advice would you like to offer other Start Up Princesses?
It’s hard, but worth it.

Favorite Magic Wand (tool/resource)?
Anything electronic. We couldn’t run our business without it.

If you could design a tiara, what precious stones would you use?
I’d have pearls. Love pearls!!

Would you be interested in being a Fairy Godmother to another woman entrepreneur? (I am working on a secure system to do this, any ideas?) Um…Sure.

What business subjects would you feel comfortable mentoring in? Maybe accounting, although I’m still working on it a bit myself.

Would you be interested in going to lunch with other women entrepreneurs for a “networking tea party”? yes.

Startup Princess is an international network committed to empowering Women Entrepreneurs by offering resources for women in business to support, mentor, collaborate, learn from, and inspire one another. In 2006, after struggling to raise funding for an initial startup business venture, Kelly King Anderson recognized an important market niche existed for reliable resources educating women desiring to start and grow successful businesses, thus Startup Princess was developed.

Successful women entrepreneurs understand that for every business venture, they are in charge of creating, organizing, developing, managing, and assuming all the risks associated with their enterprise. That can seem quite intimidating but as other women business owners will tell you, it’s a lot of work, but it’s worth it! Success is within your grasp and Startup Princess is here to help.

First, join as a member of Startup Princess and start building a solid foundation. Membership entitles you to a listing in the Startup Princess Online Directory where we list women owned businesses. You’ll also access exclusive content like articles, videos, and audio straight from your email inbox. Coupled with feature interviews, discounts on events, networking connections, and press opportunities, your Startup Princess membership will give any woman entrepreneur a great start for her business!

Then, take advantage of Touchpoint, our annual business conference for women entrepreneurs. Practical planning meets sky-high inspiration at this high-impact event for women business owners to network and develop their approach to business with wisdom and creative direction from other women entrepreneurs across the country.
