Social Media Expert Josh “Shua” Peters is putting on a social media workshop December 9-10 in SLC, Utah. It’s at the end of the year so you can learn and prepare for the upcoming year and for Startup Princess readers and fans I have a discount code Smac09Princess that will give you $100 off of the regular ticket price. The workshop will cover the basics, and the tactics on the first day and lay the foundation for the more advanced work we’ll be doing on the second day. Day 2 we will be going over how to create goals, build strategies off of those goals, identifying tactics, measuring, and more.
This is an intensive 2 day workshop that will go from 9-6 in downtown Salt Lake City. Lunch will be catered both days and we will be working in a group learning environment at the BetaLoft. As of writing this there are only 6 seats left. Register now.
Why should you care about beefing up your social media strategy?
Social media is one of the best ways for startups gain awareness for their products and services. I believe it wholeheartedly because working on a startup is where my love affair with social media began.
My Experience with Social Media
A few years ago I was working on a startup called RoyalAnts (that has been placed on the back burner for right now) where we were looking at how we could market the product when we didn’t have much of a monetary budget. Looking at the options ranging from Guerrilla Marketing methods and social media and everything else I started to dig in and learn as much as possible.
I took 3 weeks off from my day job and for at least 16 hours a day immersed myself in communities, networks, blogs, and more and began creating plans for utilizing various networks and platforms. After that we kept building and I kept learning and the more I did the more I noticed other small businesses trying to do the same thing.
As the project began to wind down and the need to place it on the back burner arrived I was seeing a new opening come up and a desire to learn and understand how all these pieces fit together and make something a business could use to help itself. I began picking up clients here and there helping them understand and work in this field. Along the way I had the opportunity to work with 2 fortune 500 companies, and recently I co-authored the book TwittFaced.
We can’t really call it an emerging idea because it has already arrived and is become part of our social consciousness and accepted by mainstream TV and celebrities. Understanding the ins and outs of social media, building plans, and how to create and monitor your goals is becoming imperative and will be what sets companies apart in the very near future. We’re already seeing that companies engaging in social media have higher financial performance.
