Hi there Michelle,

There's no such thing as a stupid comment! And, yes, Sarah you hit the nail on the head. :-)

For the first part of your question. If you can get your blog under your web site domain name, it's ideal. Here's an example, take a look at http://bestecostuff.com then look at http://bestecostuff.com/blog. The site isn't officially live yet BUT the blog is and the site is getting credit for all that blog content that is slowly being added. So, the site is already beginning to rank well in the search engines for specific search phrases.

Now, like Sarah said, you should absolutely blog. Don't give up or trash it just yet. Here's the thing...even though it looks like it's all been done before, it hasn't. Your blog is your unique spin on your niche. So, don't be afraid to really make it as unique and filled with personality as you are.

So, in essence...

#1 Blog (don't give it up just yet).
#2 Get your blog under your domain so the two can work together.
#3 Relax, have fun and know you have tons of resources around to help you out if you need it!

Hi Michelle...thought I'd pipe in with my two cents on if all companies need blogs. YES! Yes, yes, yes! Even if you are not in direct relationship with your clients through your blog, it establishes you as an expert in your niche at the very least. And search engines LOVE all that great content, like Sonya said.

Also, if your blog and website are separate, I would recommend at least hosting them on the same domain. For instance, if you had a site (www.mysite.com) and a blog (www.myblog.com), I would simply point the blog domain to a separate directory on the site (www.mysite.com/myblog). That way, all of your blog traffic will count as traffic to your main site...therefore ranking them both a bit higher. Make sense? (Correct me if I'm wrong here, Sonya!)

So, here's a question, if my blog and my website are seperate because I have lame old website technology and I am too cheap to redo it right now, do links back and forth help, or should I just bag the blog until I can do it as part of the site?

And another question...be honest...do all companies need blogs? I'm trying to figure out how to have an interesting blog about marketing and promotional products. Seems like it's all been done. I don't want to waste my time if it's not really going to help.

Thanks for the article. It got me thinking and I think I may need to stop being cheap and make the web start working for me.

(I feel like i just went to a therapy session by the way. Sorry to dump. Probably sounds stupid, but I'm really trying to make sure I spend my time in the right places. And do me a favor, don't look at my website right now, you'll just laugh.)
