Mom Entrepreneurs Inspire Moms to Become Entrepreneurs

With Mother’s Day drawing near we’ve enjoyed a few weeks of increased interest in the media celebrating successful mom entrepreneurs (Hint! Please feature mom entrepreneurs all year long). We’ve been fortunate that two Start Up Princess members have been featured in publications this month– Marina Westerdahl of Gissy Bella highlighted in Costco Connection and Heather Ledeboer of Mom4Life interviewed by Entrepreneur. The beauty of interviews about entrepreneurs is that inspiring start up stories generate discussion, brainstorming, creativity, and often an interview will push someone over the edge from thinking, “I have a great idea” to “I can be an entrepreneur too!”

Perhaps this is where you are at…you’ve just caught your entrepreneurial spirit and you can’t wait to move forward. Congratulations. This can be a mix of emotions– exciting as well as overwhelming! Start Up Princess if full of great inspiration and resources for women entrepreneurs. As we celebrate Mother’s Day at Start Up Princess, we want to highlight a few of our members who also happen to be moms and invite you to read their profile pages.

Get to Know 3 of our own Mom Entrepreneurs:

Abby’s start up was inspired because she realized as much as she adores being a mom there’s lots of things that change like, “Before Kids…I had shoe money!”

Abby’s been in business less than 2 years and already is seeing media attention, online, and boutique sales. She was our very first Start Up Princess member to contact us through this site last summer. ;) She has 2 children.

Her advice to other Start Up Princesses:
If you need help, ask for it. People always want to help the underdog.

Lisa Rousseau, of Walking Spree New Brunswick, Canada

Lisa serves as co-founder and COO of Walking Spree an online walking club and USB pedometer program. Lisa is a single mom and has 2 boys.

Walking Spree launched last December and they are a busy crew! Lisa is very current on marketing research and has built a strong campaign to attract women to their innovative concept. They’re already generating a buzz as sponsor of Avon’s Walk for Breast Cancer.

Her advice to Start Up Princesses (pre-launch): Even getting to this stage took over a year of research and work. I’d say from my perspective, from a pre-launch phase, that to always believe in what you’re doing. Sometimes self-doubt and worry creeps in, but then something amazing happens along the way that just re-inforces how what you’re doing is going to make a difference. So have faith and work hard.

Debbie Savage, Baby Emi Jewelry

Her advice to other Start Up Princesses:
Follow your dreams and don’t give up. I know it sounds cliché but it is the simple truth when trying and doing something unfamiliar. Don’t be afraid to make mistakes because one step back is like a step forward because you learn from your mistakes.

Startup Princess is an international network committed to empowering Women Entrepreneurs by offering resources for women in business to support, mentor, collaborate, learn from, and inspire one another. In 2006, after struggling to raise funding for an initial startup business venture, Kelly King Anderson recognized an important market niche existed for reliable resources educating women desiring to start and grow successful businesses, thus Startup Princess was developed.

Successful women entrepreneurs understand that for every business venture, they are in charge of creating, organizing, developing, managing, and assuming all the risks associated with their enterprise. That can seem quite intimidating but as other women business owners will tell you, it’s a lot of work, but it’s worth it! Success is within your grasp and Startup Princess is here to help.

First, join as a member of Startup Princess and start building a solid foundation. Membership entitles you to a listing in the Startup Princess Online Directory where we list women owned businesses. You’ll also access exclusive content like articles, videos, and audio straight from your email inbox. Coupled with feature interviews, discounts on events, networking connections, and press opportunities, your Startup Princess membership will give any woman entrepreneur a great start for her business!

Then, take advantage of Touchpoint, our annual business conference for women entrepreneurs. Practical planning meets sky-high inspiration at this high-impact event for women business owners to network and develop their approach to business with wisdom and creative direction from other women entrepreneurs across the country.

Need a little help taking your business to the next step? Wish you had a fairy godmother like Cinderella offering you a helping hand? Now you can! Startup Princess is the home of Fairy Godmother Consulting, volunteer mentors sharing tips and insights to bless the lives of other women entrepreneurs.

Startup Princess can offer many benefits to women in business from future women business owners to successful women entrepreneurs.
