Professional Background (brief, please): I’ve been a journalist for the past 11 years, with the last seven in public radio (currently with KUER FM90).

What you wanted to be when you grew up: A ballerina librarian (reshelving books gracefully, I suppose).

What you are: A journalist and podcasting consultant.

Brief Summary of your Start Up: I started podcasting in June 2004, basically because I thought the technology was so cool! Since then, I’ve had many people ask for help getting started podcasting and finally in November 2006, I decided I should start making a little cash from my expertise. IntelliCast Communications offers creative consulting, podcast production and training if you want to do it yourself.

What inspired you? My business partner, Robin Sussingham, and I attended a national podcasting expo last fall and we discovered there’s a market out there, particularly for businesses that want to create a community of customers, develop a radio show, train a sales force, communicate complex information, etc.  Podcasting (on-demand radio over the Internet) can allow employees, clients, board members or whoever you choose to download company information on their schedule, which makes it a very attractive communications tool for businesses. So we decided to jump in!

How long have you been in business? Two months.

How did you fund it? Savings.

Current Business Challenge? Figuring out the financial end (bookkeeping, taxes, etc.).

What are you doing about it? Studying Quicken and looking for a good accountant.

Family? Husband John Pearce and two sons, Ben (8) and Jonas (5).

If so, how do you balance family and business? A messy home office, a good babysitter and a very flexible, supportive husband.

Favorite book? Tough question, but I do love “Grapes of Wrath” by John Steinbeck.

What do you do to relax? Read, do crossword puzzles, take walks and play Nintendo Wii.

What do you want to change most about your world? Getting more sleep.

What are you most proud of? My two amazing kids, my husband’s success and my innate restlessness (a weakness that’s become a strength).

What advice would you like to offer other Start Up Princesses? Figure out what you love and what you’re good at, then go for it!

Favorite Magic Wand (tool/resource)? Webster’s Dictionary. I can’t tell you the difference good grammar and solid sentence structure make in professional documents and presentations!

If you could design a tiara, what precious stones would you use? Rubies.

Would you be interested in being a Fairy Godmother to another woman entrepreneur? (I am working on a secure system to do this, any ideas?) I’m not sure I’m competent enough yet in business, but when that time comes, sure.

What business subjects would you feel comfortable mentoring in? Using technology.

Would you be interested in going to lunch with other women entrepreneurs for a “networking tea party”? Sure, time permitting.

If you are out of Utah County, would you be willing to be a facilitator of such an event? Maybe.
