How to Avoid the Perfect Princess Syndrome

Today’s Magical Wisdom provided by Startup Princess, Liz Pabon, The Branding Maven and author of just released book, The MavHERick Mind , be sure to read the details of her special offer for March benefiting eWomen Network and Women for Hire foundations at the bottom of the post. Check out the great book design too, I enjoyed reading it the other day while taking a long bath!

Recently, while discussing the power of the mind as the strongest muscle and success tool we possess as women in business, the topic of perfectionism reared its ugly head.

Has this ever happened to you?

You launch your business and are about to execute a new marketing campaign, attend a networking event for the first time or try a new way to communicate your brand message but the fear of not having everything “perfect” stops you cold.

There’s no question you have the best of intentions. After all, the better your “stuff” the more powerful your results–right?

Well, not exactly but that’s a topic for another post ;-)

What’s important about what I’ve termed the “Perfect Princess Syndrome” is a distinction many Startup Princesses and entrepreneurial Queens forget–the difference between perfection and excellence.

You see excellence is in your control. It is the way you set and re-set the standards you live by as an entrepreneurial woman. In essence, it is the rulebook you live by and honor.

We forget that as entrepreneurs, we have the freedom to create and design our business and lifestyle. Yet, so many get caught up in the “perfect” elevator pitch or “perfect” flyer that you defeat yourself before you ever get started!

What does perfect mean anyway?

It is merely a standard that someone else has decided on and you chose to run your business (or life) by that standard. In other words, it is not a standard you set it is one set for you. It’s no wonder so many entrepreneurial women want to throw in the towel!

In the battle for success, you have three very powerful allies to rely on: Courage, Discipline and Excellence. It’s excellence that empowers you to do your best and push the limits of your potential in your time, and on your terms.

I feel empowered just typing that–how about you?

And that part of you that is independent, spirited and has the courage to march to the beat of your own drum is the MavHERick™ that lives inside you.

Look around you Startup Princess and identify where you’ve fallen short in your business not because you aren’t destined for greatness, but because you have been trying to live up to an ideal you never bought into.

The best part about choosing excellence over perfection is that it’s within your control–no special permits to register for, no special skills required, no permission necessary.

Every Startup Princess will one day take the throne as entrepreneurial Queen. On your journey towards royal graduation, call on your allies to support you and along the way, create and then break your own record!

I’ve coined March MavHERick™ Magic Marathon month. With each purchase of my book, The MavHERick Mind: How to Win the Battle for Success by Using What You’ve Got to Get What You Want, I will donate proceeds to the eWomen Network and Women for Hire foundations.

Your support of this cause will help empower women from all walks of life remember two things: 1) they already possess the greatest power of all–the power of choice and 2) they are not alone!
