Have you ever wondered what you would do if someone offered you an opportunity to leave your career job (with benefits) to buy into a business with no jobs on the calendar, no benefits, a promise that it will be whatever you make it out to be, and you’re 8 ½ months pregnant anticipating the birth of your first child? No?! Well, I hadn’t either until that day. Now, over 17 years later, I still ask myself similar questions and this is what I’ve found.
Life is about opportunity. Opportunity never comes when you expect it to, its rarely convenient, and the stars as you see them are never completely aligned. Life is only what you make of it when those opportunities arise.
Dare to Dream – So often in life we think we have to wait until someone else dishes us our allotments. Someone to call us to dinner, asks you out on a date, or invites you to the party. Why is that? It doesn’t have to be a waiting game hoping someone will serve you a platter of amazing things. Dare to Dream.
For many dreaming is scaring and exciting at the same time. You want to do the things you dream about but you’re afraid of the things you know 
you have to work through to get there, you’re afraid of the things you don’t know how to do along the way, you’re afraid of the things you don’t even know you don’t know yet, and you’re even afraid of being afraid. Daring to dream is about getting over the fear that holds you back.
Dreaming is about allowing yourself the freedom to be that amazing person that you are and believing in your own nobility within waiting to explode and share itself with the universe. Just because something hasn’t been done yet does not mean that it wouldn’t be fantastic, successful, or even revolutionizing. It’s about believing in YOU.
Plan and Prepare –If we take the time we need to process, plan, and prepare we can overcome any challenge we face no matter how large or small. Most people allow themselves to be bumped around like bumper cars in an accident already in motion to happen rather then taking the time to think things through and make clear concise decisions that keep them safe.
Planning and preparing is a two-fold process. It’s important to think about life as you know it today and make good decisions accordingly but it is also about out thinking the future. What could happen, what might come, and how can we make good decisions today to protect us for tomorrow.
Be Unique and Unruffled – One of the greatest tools you have is your uniqueness. There is lots of what’s out there already but what is it about you that will make you stand out? Uniqueness. Most people think that if its not already out there it might not be good enough. But how many times have you found yourself looking for that next new restaurant you’ve never been to, or the new movie about to come out, or even the simplicity of a new outfit. We all want something new and unusual that uniquely defines us, allow us to stand out, and gives us something to be excited about and talk about at our next social event.
Typically when someone presents a new idea it gets a lot of skepticism. At first people are afraid of what they don’t know or have never seen or heard of. Be unruffled in the opposition that might come and stand true to the dreams of uniqueness you have. Certainly look to the wisdom that will come but do not let skepticism ruin your excitement for life.
It’s uniqueness that brings people back.
Dive In and Do It – There comes a point in time where you just have to dive in and do it. No more thinking about, stressing about, or wondering about. Just do it! You will never have all the answers when you start. You can’t. Some of them just have to come with experience and a little trial and error along the way. That is the learning none of us can avoid. It’s life.
Resolve and Reinvent – There will always be challenges along they way. The most successful people are problem solvers. They look outside of the box of what is not working to discover the ideas that will work and then do strategic things to implement them. Sometimes you even have to reinvent yourself. Give it a new twist, a new look, or a new anything
Have Fun and Eat Chocolate – When life becomes too stressful go have fun and eat chocolate. You can’t live with your nose to the grindstone day in and day out. You have to have fun along the way. Everything will never be done. There is never a good time. There will always be troubles to resolve. There is never enough money. Who cares! Get away, get a break, and enjoy the process. Unless you enjoy what you have, and what you are doing, what is the point?
Over 17 years later, 5 children, multiple businesses and lots of trial & error learning behind me, I’m still learning, reinventing, and having fun in the process. Dream your dream, live your life, and make it what you want it to be.

This is a big soap box of mine! I find I’m constantly encouraging people to set aside their fears, get out of the box and try something unconventional – something that will bring them joy and help them to bless the lives of others.
