Today’s Magic Wand: This Summer we’ve beat the heat watching movies as a family, here’s some of our favorites that inspired the entrepreneur in me and taught my kids some great lessons about life and determination.
Anne of Green Gables I had to put this film on the list because Anne Shirley is my “kindred spirit”, I played the role in a play once and she never left me…a determined dreamer who is fun to watch and inspires you to be your best; love the triology.
Astronaut Farmer What a great story about involving your family in your dream! “Farmer” knows who he is and what he can accomplish, despite press, govt., and community pressure he keeps pressing on; I love the line, “If I give up now what will that teach my family?”
Dreamer Here’s another one you will want to see if you’ve missed it. I love how the family comes together because of a horse and a little girl’s dream, great lessons in forgiveness and working as a team (she even learns to negotiate)
The Wizard of Oz Magical fun with a great message for recognizing your inner gifts. If you haven’t seen it in a long time, treat yourself and watch it again. There’s lessons you probably missed as a kid and then you’ll be ready to go see Wicked (I’m going in LA soon!
Swiss Family Robinson I just recently watched this 1960′s film for the first time and enjoyed seeing how the family worked together with the resources, skills, and pure genius to make the best of their situation and will to live, and besides haven’t you always dreamed of having a baby elephant for a pet? Especially good if you have a son.
Sound of Music Maria is a dreamer who learns to love her work, love those she serves and uses creativity and her own gifts to turn a family around and makes an incredible difference in their lives
Wild Hearts Can’t Be Broken; this is a Disney-produced film from the 90′s, remember? It has “Jake Ryan” from the 80′s classic, “Sixteen Candles” in it, so you women will love it, but aside from that, it is a story of a young orphaned girl with a lot of determination to be a “Horse Diving Girl” and how she never stops believing in what she can do. I got it at the library.
