Breast Cancer Awareness Discussion and a Giveaway by Cherella

Everywhere you look this month the color should be PINK in support of Breast Cancer Awareness Month. I admit that I hadn’t really thought much about what I can do to help until recently when a dear childhood friend had a double mastectomy last week, now in recovery and then on for chemo, reconstructive surgery, and that’s just the physical parts… not to mention the emotional impact on her spirit, her little family, her family, friends… you probably know women too who make breast cancer awareness REAL. It’s certainly REAL for me now..

So this post is a celebration of those who are trying to help. Startup Princesses like Cheryl and Cassie of Cherella who are MAKING a difference, they Made a Wish, now they are Making it Happen with proceeds of this great hip bag, the Susie Q donated to the Susan B. Kumen Foundation.

Cherella is doing a giveaway on StartupPrincess.com for anyone who posts a comment here who writes something they’ve done to help someone affected by breast cancer, your comment could be anything, from “I said a prayer for the cure” to “I’m donating…” to “I took my friend with breast cancer dinner”… the intent is to see POSITIVE ACTION that we can do and to reward one of you for doing it, for granting wishes in your own way. The drawing for the SusieQ bag will be by random.org on Tuesday, October 14, 5pm. We look forward to seeing your  comments…thank you for what you’re doing to help. While owner and editor of Wasatch Woman Magazine, I wrote (or included) several articles about local women who have overcome breast cancer and ran a free ad – multiple times – for the Susan G. Komen organization.

My grandmother died of breast cancer, and my aunt had it when she was my age. In September I found a lump and went and had it checked out. Luckily the tumor is benign, but one of the best ways we can support the cause is to get checked regularly and support others in doing the same.

I just added a pink ribbon to my blog in support of breast cancer awareness and I am going in for a mammogram next month – when was your last one ladies?? Be sure and have a baseline if you aren’t 40 yet! Taking care of ourselves and getting regular mammograms is one of the best things we can do to help prevent breast cancer. I have a neighbor who went through breast cancer last year and radiation treatments. A friendly smile and a warm meal are always appreciated!
