What is “Startup Princess?”
Startup Princess is an international network committed to Empowering Women Entrepreneurs by offering resources for women in business to support, mentor, collaborate, learn from, and inspire one another. Kelly King Anderson, the Founder of Startup Princess has always been passionate about making a difference in the lives of others. While pursuing a Master’s degree Kelly thought of a creative retail concept, developed a solid business plan and won 2nd place nationally at The Wake Forest MBA business plan competition. During and after the competition Kelly recognized there was a serious lack of resources available for women in startups and she decided to organize Startup Princess to serve women in the startup phase of their businesses, to surround them with support, connections, and mentors that would help them move forward. Startup Princess provides free online resources and twitter chats plus produces national live events, retreats and coaching. Startup Princess was featured as a Top Resource for Women Entrepreneurs by Costco Connection and Entrepreneur. Forbes listed Startup Princess as one of the top 10 sites for Women Entrepreneurs in July 2011. Kelly has been featured on the covers of Wasatch Woman and Utah Business magazines, Named one of the Top 30 Women to Watch in Utah Business and has published multiple business articles online and in print. Her specialties are in marketing strategy, PR, branding, life and business planning, and social media. The Startup Princess Twitter account updated by Kelly is considered an Elite account – ranked in the Top 25 of Most Powerful Women on Twitter by Twittergrader with over 140,000 followers.
Previous to Startup Princess Kelly worked as an Assistant Producer for a Radio Station, Account Executive for a Marketing Firm, and as a Freelance Publicist for an International Tae Kwon Do Champion, helping her client to receive national media attention on Today’s Show, CNN, and more. In college she and some friends lived in Bulgaria and saw firsthand the devastation orphans were facing and decided to start a non-profit in 2003 to assist them, One Heart Bulgaria http://www.oneheart-bg.org. Today the organization collects over $100k in sponsorship funds annually to give nutritional support, medical care, and educational programs to the children and employs retired Bulgarian Grandmothers to care for the children, adding significantly to their quality of life and emotional needs. While not active in the organization at this time, Kelly has served as a board member for a few years, produced a benefit CD, traveled to Bulgaria on service missions and remains a legally recognized Trustee of the organization.
Kelly lives in beautiful Utah with her husband and three children.
