Blessings 2008: What’s Your Top Ten?

November 24, 2008

When Matthew and I got married I decided to create a family tradition of sending Thanksgiving cards with a photo and list of blessings we’d received that year. We’ve been entrepreneurs our entire 11 years of marriage with some real ups and downs financially so in a way this list demonstrated to us (and our close loved ones) that we were indeed surviving thriving and that while we only had a little in the bank, we recognized how truly blessed we were and were loving the life we created. Unfortunately I had to break the Thanksgiving card tradition this year because we didn’t get our family photos back in time and have been on vacation… so we’ll send out our holiday cards during December with the rest of the world. Long story short: my top 10 blessings of 2008 will be listed here instead. And we want you to share your top 10 as well. :) Happy Thanksgiving to all. Read more

Get Organized and Attract More Business

November 14, 2008

Annette Pieper, a successful life and business coach writes the following post: Who wants to attract more money into their life?

How many of you feel that you have created the space and are prepared to receive more money into your life; mentally, emotionally, spiritually and in your physical environment?  Think about it carefully.

We are all familiar with the Law of Attraction.  This law has really gone mainstream since the movie The Secret was released and its creator, Rhonda Byrnes appeared on Oprah.  I really like the movie The Secret and the principles that it emphasizes.  However, there is a principle or step that the movie doesn’t emphasize that I feel is critical in the process of creation and attraction and that is the principle of conscious action.  While it is essential to change our mindset, thoughts and beliefs, it is equally important to take action based on our thoughts and clear the way to receive what we desire and deserve.  It’s important to realize that the way to manifest is fluid.  We’re involved in the process.

Today I would like to talk about creating a space in our physical environment to receive prosperity and I’d like to begin by asking you, what is the state of your current financial lifestyle.  Do you have financial papers cluttering your desk or scattered around your filing cabinet?  Do you have stacks of unopened mail and paperwork that need attending to?  Do you shove your financial records in a box or the dreaded drawer and hope that organization will happen by osmosis?  Do you procrastinate when it comes to handling financial paperwork? Loral Langmeier, author of the Millionaire Maker says that “money doesn’t come to chaos” and it’s true.  The more chaotic your financial lifestyle, the less you will be able to attract money into your life.  As a rule of thumb if you have physical clutter, you have mental clutter as well.

Studies show that 90% of the population lives most of their lives where 85% is chaos and only 15% is order.  This same 90% of the population is unhappy with the results that they are receiving.  They believe that there could be something more, but they don’t know how to achieve it.  I teach a 3 step process to assist in bringing order to your financial lifestyle by organizing your Financial Filing cabinet.  I’d liked to briefly share that with you today.

Let’s begin with step One in this process, which is Gathering: To initiate this process you’re going to gather together all of your documents that represent incoming and outgoing money in your life.  Documents like credit card statements bank statements, personal payables, cash expenses and pay check stubs. Also, investment portfolio, wills, insurance policies, financial planning documents, and all related legal documents such as deeds, social security information, birth certificates and such.

Step Two in the process is Sort and File:  In this step you will separate these documents into like kind.  To do this you will probably need to spread out across the floor or table and if you own your own business, you will want to do this for your business as well.  In one pile you will have your CC statements, in another cash expenses, in other words, sort and match.  Once they are sorted you will create labels and file the documents.  Be sure to supply yourself with what you need to complete this important project.

The final step is Document: You want to create a master list of the files in your cabinet.  You will list the type of file such as American Express Card, the account number, and where it is located in the cabinet, front half in top drawer or third file from front in top drawer.  Be as detailed as you feel you need to be.  Once you have your master list complete, make copies and place one in the front of the file cabinet, one with a trusted friend or family member and one in a safe deposit box.  When you have completed this step, you will have your financial life sorted for your loved ones.  This way should something happen to you; your loved ones won’t be swimming through your chaos to find important paperwork.  None of us are going to get out of this life alive so think of this project as a labor of love.

It is important to know that good record keeping is an essential part of sound financial management.  It’s an attractor factor.  As Loral Langmeier puts it, Do Paperwork or be Poor.

Your organized financial filing cabinet will provide a firm foundation to build your wealth upon.  Remember that money is not going to come into an environment where it is not wanted.  Therefore, I invite you to take an honest look at your financial lifestyle this week and see if you can bring it to a higher state of order. Show the Universe that you are truly ready to receive.

I want to conclude with a quote by Napoleon Hill, author of the book “Think and Grow Rich”.

“If you are one of those people who think that hard work and honesty alone will bring riches, perish the though!  It is not true.  Riches, when they come in huge quantities, are never the result of hard work.  Riches come, if they come at all, in response to definite demands based upon the application of definite principles, and not by chance or luck.”

Happy Filing!

Join the Startup Princess Twitter Group

November 10, 2008

We’ve started a Twitter Group via Tweetworks and I’m so excited about it. For the past 2 years I’ve wanted a forum but it never seemed right, so here’s your chance to chat with other Startup Princesses, leave an update or a link, and comment on other people’s tweets. New to Twitter? No problem. It’s free and easy. Here’s our group link.

There’s already a dozen or so members, we started it this weekend after the success of Twittering our retreat, if you’d like to follow the tweets from that, go to http://search.twitter.com and enter “#princess”, there’s 22 pages of updates from the event. Wonderful! We decided to move over to Tweetworks because they allow it to be “private” or “public” (you choose) when you post.

Hope to see you soon over there!

Gratitude: Retreat was “Sparkly”, Startup Princess Tweetworks Group Launched Plus! Links to Attendees’ Posts

November 10, 2008

I loved reading Design Mom, Gabrielle Blair’s recent Twitter about the Retreat…she said it was “Sparkly” and yes, indeed it was. “Sparkly” that’s exactly how you SHOULD describe Startup Princesses and Fairy Godmothers. You’re all so darn brilliant, beautiful, and light truly radiates from you. And “Sparkly” of course is a great descriptor because of all the magic wands flashing about (and Gwen Bell’s wings (which she wore the entire weekend!), the awesome connections made and the valuable content shared. I’ve been contemplating really, truly, how could I even attempt to sum it up? Hmm…How about “Sparkly Awesome?”

For me, personally and for Startup Princess it was a wish come true to have talented, wonderful women I love and admire from all over the country join together for a retreat all about internet marketing with first rate nationally-known presenters ( Holly Buchanan, Design Mom-Gabrielle Blair, Barbara Jones, Gwen Bell , Janet Meiners Thaeler. The retreat was filled with super cutting edge content and I left rethinking a lot of my online marketing and with many ideas for immediate implementation and above all the thought CREATE MORE RETREATS.

The first “a-ha moment” emerged from Gwen Bell and Gabrielle Blair’s suggestion that we Twitter the event. I really didn’t know how to do this before in an event setting. They taught everyone the first night and we created the #princess group on twitter (you can go back and read 22 pages of content), we started “trending” which is when your group is spotlighted/featured and then as a complete surprise, Kirtsy generously offered to sponsor internet for everyone…thank you Kirtsy! It really changed the dynamics of the event to have everyone online and Twittering and we now have many new Startup Princesses on Twitter connecting, so much that we now have a TweetWorks group. This group will be what we all make it…there’s about 13 or so participating now there so join in when you can and say hello.

If You’re on Twitter (if not, join for free)!

Startup Princess Marketing to Women Online Retreat TODAY

November 7, 2008

Truth be told, it’s NOT just an ordinary Friday. Today, Startup Princess friends, is Christmas. This is ALL I’ve wanted ALL year, not just THIS year, but for the past 2 1/2 years. I’m so excited to have our very first Startup Princess retreat that I could hardly sleep! All week I’ve been in such a good mood and the anticipation of BEING with 31 AMAZING women entrepreneurs and experts ALL WEEKEND is making my heart rejoice. God is GREAT. Everything has aligned perfectly.

The speakers all made their flights and are currently in the air on a non-stop flight traveling to beautiful SLC (on the SAME flight), very cool. That in and of itself is a miracle!! Another miracle: Sarah Bray’s flight from NC connected with the speakers’ flight and they’re now all joined together and none of this was preplanned plus Gwen Bell’s flight from Colorado comes in just minutes after theirs. So, yes, you can call me Tour Guide Princess now. I’ll be picking 5 beautiful Fairy Godmothers up in a few hours and then we’ll head to Gateway for lunch and then up to Zermatt. Can’t wait. Can’t wait. Can’t wait.

Other miracles? Yesterday we added another sponsor and two more attendees. Our sponsors help cover the travel expenses, so hurray! Thanks to all our sponsors for making our retreat possible, Today’s Mama, Vizad, Orange Soda, and Len Carson,  representing his law firm Richards Brandt Miller & Nelson.

If you’re coming, see you soon! If you’re not…we’ll miss you. If you’re a Utahn, you can still make it. Call me 801-856-4765.

How to Get Someone to Review Your Book

November 5, 2008

Wow. I just got off the phone with Scott Bradley, who is running the media and marketing campaign for The Toilet Paper Entrepreneur book by Mike Michalowicz. Scott also has a blog appropriately called Networking Effectively. I’m impressed with Scott and I’ll tell you why. In fact, Scott did such a good job reaching me/pitching the book, not only am I writing THIS post about HOW he and Mike are marketing geniuses, they’ll get a book review and perhaps more than that…a tele-conference, perhaps?? How and why was Scott so successful in reaching a busy mom entrepreneur like me and converting me as his newest fan (and Mike’s as well)? Read more
